Visit your local Peel library and pick up a family pass to visit PAMA: Peel Art Gallery Museum and Archives located at 9 Wellington St. E, Brampton.
We went together with our Art Club and visited the 19th century Court House and County Jail. We were inspired by local art from elementary level students. We took a play break in the come to life kitchen and attempted a live seek and find scavenger hunt in the artifacts museum.
Lastly, we settled down with our canvas and paints to replicate a piece of local art.
We were there for 2 hours and still didn’t uncover all the richness this space had to offer.

VISIT PAMA
VISIT THE ROCK Mine
Connected to our Earth and Study Mini-Study, the kids and I went on an Ontario adventure to Bancroft to visit the Princess Sodalite Mine! The drive was beautiful for late-August and I have it on my list to visit the town again.
The Mine’s owners travel across Ontario and Canada collecting rocks and bringing it back to their mine for locals to discover hidden gems with a hammer and a pick. Kids of all ages are welcomed but all must wear safety glasses and closed toe shoes. The kids gathered their treasures of Rose Quartz and Fool’s Gold (Pyrite) with such pride (because they seriously worked hard for it!).
Our next stop is to visit the Thunder Bay Mine and gather some Amethyst: Ontario’s Gem.

the laura secord homestead
In association to the book that we are reading, Laura Secord: A Story of Courage by Janet Lunn we took a trip to Niagara and visited her homestead. The guide of her homestead was so beautifully done and the kids were excited to bring to life the story we are reading. They were able to visualize where the American soldiers were sitting when Laura overheard their plan to ambush Fitzgibbon. They caught a glimpse of how living accommdations were different especially with no fridge or oven in the kitchen or a running water and a functioning toilet.
Pick up this book at a local thrift store and take them on a heroic journey during the War of 1812 and make sure to pick up some chocolate or get a scoop of ice cream from the shop too!
